Questions about Dallas....?

I'm thinking about moving to Dallas or Atlanta during my optometry rotations to settle afterwards. I don't really see myself dead center of either city, unless the specific area is classy and well-kept. I'm also looking for which will be best for when I see my self in the outskirts of the city, suburb preferrably to start a family. Can you please copy, paste, and answer these questions? First a little about me. 27 y/o BM from St. Louis. Tired of ridiculous crime, and a downtown that still isn't "finished yet". Looking to move away, start a practice, and a family in either of these two cities. So here's my questions:

Is the traffic that horrible?

Autumn is my favorite seasons b/c of the temp, color changes, and leaves falling. Does this not happen in Dallas?

Dallas is similar but better than STL in crime. What are some good surrounding suburbs that are exempt?

I see that the real estate market is excellent in Dallas, what's the catch?

How is nightlife?

Are there any historic parks and/or lakes nearby?

Any medical schools nearby?

How are the hospitals?

Any Big12 or Big10 schools to tailgate on weekends?

If you can answer any of these questions, I'd greatly appreciate it.Questions about Dallas....?
In Dallas the traffic is not a bad as Atlanta.

We have seasons here, but the winters are not too bad.

The real estate market is depressed meaning you can get a bargain on houses now.

There is lots of nightlife for young people

There are lakes and parks near

There is are major hospitals and medical school in Dallas

There are no Big 12 or Big 10 schools in Dallas, but SMU has teams and Austin is only 3 1/2 hours by car, lots of people go down for football games.

TCU is in Ft. Worth, about 30 miles West.
(Lester is correct on all his answers)

I think Austin sounds like a great place for you!!!!

If you would like to be near Dallas - I would suggest moving to Grapevine, Flower Mound or Coppell.Questions about Dallas....?
First let me say I have never been to Atlanta so I can't give you any info on it.

Dallas traffic can be horrible, depending on the freeway and time of day. If possible avoid I-635 (LBJ Freeway) and I-75 (Central Expressway) at morning %26amp; evening rush hour.. However, I-20, I-30,

I-35, Dallas North Tollway, George Bush Turnpike, 121 Tollway usually move pretty well. You'll never get away from traffic in a large city.

Autumn is my favorite season too. Unfortunately you won't see it in Dallas. It's been cooler the past 2 weeks, but most years it stays pretty warm well into Oct. and foliage color is not to be seen here.

The high crime in Dallas thankfully does not appear in the suburbs. The nicer suburbs are to the north of the city. Plano is the nicest.

Others are Frisco, Flower Mound, %26amp; Coppell. These suburbs have excellent schools as well, while public schools in Dallas proper are unacceptable.

Real Estate has always been good in Dallas -- no catch.

You'll find all the night life you want in Dallas.

There are many parks and lakes in the Dallas area. In downtown Dallas you'll find Dealy Plaza, which is the location of the assassination of JFK, Old City Park, which is a historic village, Belo Park, Main Street Park, Pacific Plaza Park, Pegasus Plaza, and Thanksgiving Square. Dallas Arboretum %26amp; Botanical Garden are beautiful and White Rock Lake is very popular. There's a running and biking trail, fishing and sailing. Each year it hosts one of the top 10 Marathons in the nation. The neighborhoods in the area around White Rock Lake are some of the most desired in the city. Other lakes are Grapevine Lake, Lake Lavon, Lake Lewisville, Lake Ray Hubbard, North Lake, Joe Pool Lake, and Lake Ray Roberts.

Southwestern Medical School is in Dallas

Parkland is the County Hospital. The other main ones in Dallas are St Paul's University Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Medical City Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, Baylor University Hospital, Children's Medical Center and Scottish Rite Hospital. There are other smaller ones as well and many in the suburbs.

For a Big 10 or Big 12 school you'll have to go to Austin to University of Texas or to College Station to A %26amp; M to tailgate. Of course you could go to a Cowboy game at the new stadium in Arlington -- they tailgate there too.

Hope this helps a little.
Is the traffic that horrible? It can be. I-635 and I-75 can be at a standstill any hour of the day.

Autumn is my favorite seasons b/c of the temp, color changes, and leaves falling. Does this not happen in Dallas? If there are oak trees or Bradford Pear trees then you will see Autumn color. It lasts about 1 week. Sometimes there is a cool Autumn and other times it is downright hot. You can wear shorts on Thanksgiving one year and the next you might be wearing a sweater. Summers are always hot.

Dallas is similar but better than STL in crime. What are some good surrounding suburbs that are exempt? Plano is safe

I see that the real estate market is excellent in Dallas, what's the catch? Houses in the area never really appreciate or depreciate. No natural beauty, mountains or ocean nearby to cause real estate prices to be outrageous.

How is nightlife? The nightlife is good.

Are there any historic parks and/or lakes nearby? There is only 1 natural lake in all of Texas and it's not by Dallas. White Rock Lake, Lake Lewisville, Lake Ray Hubbard are some of the lakes in the area. Dinosaur Valley State Park is one of the nicer and more interesting parks to go hike.

Any medical schools nearby? Baylor and UT Southwestern are both teaching hospitals.

How are the hospitals? Hospitals are good.

Any Big12 or Big10 schools to tailgate on weekends? UNT, SMU and TCU are the football playing colleges in the area. Obviously they aren't in the Big 12 or Big 10. Texas and Oklahoma play in the Red River Shootout in Dallas and Grambling State and Prairie View A%26amp;M play in the State Fair Classic. That happens right now or when the State Fair of Texas is going on.Questions about Dallas....?
I spent a little bit of time in St. Louis (give or take a week).

Traffic is horrible, but not like Atlanta (Atlanta is still tops, I believe.)

You'll see a lot of fall color changes and stuff.

If you're going to the Dallas side, Frisco or Plano or The Colony are good. If you choose the Fort Worth, you have Keller, Southlake.

You've got lots of lakes, Joe Pool, Ray Hubbard, Cedar Hill has a nice park.

Hospitals are good, and I have a missing appendix to testify to that.

The big schools around there are SMU %26amp; TCU, both with decent followings.

Good luck on your decision.
