Which is Better: Houston or Dallas?

We are originally from a little town about an hour 1/2 outside of Houston. We currently are living in Buffalo, NY. My husband is in the US Coast Guard and we are looking to move back home in the next 3 years. Once back in Texas we hope to start a family and new careers. I am in the Medical Field and my husband will be in law enforcement. We are not looking to live directly in the city, but somewhere outside the city would be great! We will be purchasing a house and would love any help anyone could give us. Any info on quiet neighborhoods outside of the citys would be wonderful.

~Thanks~Which is Better: Houston or Dallas?
If you are looking for the best value of a place that is not in the city I think Houston is the place to go. Houston to me seems like a large city, but then once you're out of it, you're out of it. Not so with Dallas/Fort Worth.
Plano/Allen area if you choose Dallas.

Katy area if you choose Houston.

Lived in both and you will love it either way.Which is Better: Houston or Dallas?
dallas. i hate houston. the traffic is horrible. the people are rude. it takes ages to get anywhere you're trying to go. the cowboys are way better than the texans. :)
Dallas for sure.

Houston is just...well, not as nice, friendly, or clean. Good luck with all these changes coming up!Which is Better: Houston or Dallas?
dallas is so much better

the north and north west part of dallas is quiet and there is alot of jobs
houston

dallas is a city no beach by it
Dallas job wise
The memorial area in houston is very nice place to settle down. its very beautiful and the elementary school is very very good if you're looking to start a family. There is rarely any gang related things there. There is a mall =] which is my favorite. the people are very classy. And there is a hospital right there by the mall if you're in the mediacal Field.

hope this helped

this is a website with some houses. as you can see they range from 200,000's to the millions.

also the town houses are really good. =]
Depending on your finances and how much time you want to drive in traffic.."the woodlands" is a beautiful place. Katy is up and coming and has the biggest mall in Texas. both of these are suburbs of Houston. Don't forget about Galveston. It's become quite the clean city with Lot's to offer.
