I've been trying to research the Mattel/Hot Wheels website but can't find any answer. Are these toys safe for the dishwasher? I know they have both plastic and metal parts so I don't know if they can handle the heat, or if they will rush. Can I maybe just soak them in bleach water then rinse really well and let them dry? Also, are pretty much all plastic toys top-rack dishwasher safe? Thanks! Can I wash Hot Wheels or other die cast toy cars in the dishwasher?
I would not put them in the dish washer any plastic on them will melt and that will create a huge mess i would wash them by hand with soap water and an old tooth brush to reach the hard to clean areas. Can I wash Hot Wheels or other die cast toy cars in the dishwasher?
Do NOT put Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars in the dishwasher. Do not dry them with a hair dryer. If you want to clean your Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, follow the steps below. These cars were not made to handle heat and you will ruin your dishwasher in trying to clean them that way!
First, mix a solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water in a small bowl. Use two drops of dishwashing liquid to each cup of warm water. Dip the cars in one at a time and put them on stacks of paper towels to dry. Clean stubborn stains with a soft toothbrush. Don't dip cars with decals on them or the decals will come off. Don't use bleach on the cars or you will damage them and fade the colors. Make sure you put the cars upside down to dry, and then flip them over when the bottom is dry to dry the top.
Some toys are dishwasher safe, but very few. Most plastic toys are not top rack dishwasher safe because they are made from cheaper quality plastic that will melt from the heat. Also, some plastic toys can release dangerous chemicals when heated in a dishwasher. Can I wash Hot Wheels or other die cast toy cars in the dishwasher?
Yes, pretty much all palstic toys are top rack dishwasher safe. But keep in mind that the colors will probably fade faster. With the hot wheels I would probably soak them in hot soapy waetr, clean surface dirt with something like a bottle brush, and set them in the sun to dry. You could also use a hair dryer to make sure you dry out all the water from inside.
Yes you can make sure to have the heated drying turned of and use jet dry to dry the inside of them back out
