Take a piece of 1/2 inch thick yellow pine wood, trace small animal shapes on it and then cut them out. Drill small holes in their backs to enable hanging. Sand the wood to remove all roughness and round the edges. Paint with non-toxic colorful paints and seal with a non-toxic paint sealer. Hang the animals on strings from dowels and you have a playful mobile for a baby to play with when it is hung above the crib. Professionally made ones cost big bucks. What type of toy could one make at home for an infant?
hello,

infants under one year old especially, love and are attracted to things that stimulate their senses. in toys, that is often : texture, colours, sounds. the best infant toys are washable, but that said, nothing says your toy must be for more than one use. just make sure it has no pieces that can be dislodged and eaten by baby, and that it is of a good size for them to handle. mobiles are often fun to make and good for baby. parents should change the mobiles over the baby's change area and bed occasionally just to keep baby stimulated. did you know that babies don't see colour at first? that's why there is alot of black and white contrasts in baby stuff.

if you want more ideas, go to your local toy store and look and see what there is and take an idea to make your own. if you can't get to a store, browse online toystores in a pinch... just remember: babies are tactile and what they learn with are their eyes, hands and mouth so... have fun and keep them safe! What type of toy could one make at home for an infant?
