How do toy rat terriers get along with other small dogs & cats, that were already in the household before?

I am getting a 10-12 wk. old female toy rat terrier puppy, but I already have a 5 year old, male12 lb. Pomeranian, %26amp; 8 indoor cats. Should I be worried that they won't adjust to each other??How do toy rat terriers get along with other small dogs %26amp; cats, that were already in the household before?
I have two and I have to say that they are really good with other animals, from the largest of dogs, to cats.

In fact, one of my rats is best friends with my sister's cat.

You'll have to give them time to adjust to one another, but that's typical for any breed.

Now, one thing I will suggest, is that you get training for your rat. They are very stubborn, but once you get them where you want them...they are AWESOME dogs!

We brought home a Toy Fox Terrier puppy to 4 full grown cats, and they got along fine. Don't expect them to hang out together, but they learn to tolerate. We got another toy fox terrier and he is the runt of the group and the other cats flock around him and corner him and pick on him. Its kinda sad, and kinda funny. I have to come running to his rescue when the cats are bullying him. They get him in the corner and he yelps for help. Darn hunter cats.

I guess bengel tigers are bound to do that (joke)
i have a rat terrier..along with a pit, and 3 cats...the rat terrier is very hyper....i dont know how to control him...he gets along with the others though. he may get along with them because he's the alpha male.

since you are getting a female...she will do fine. just introduce her to other ones as soon as you bring her home. the others will know that she will be there to stay. they will probably sniff her at first and make sure she's cool ppls. ya know how animals do.How do toy rat terriers get along with other small dogs %26amp; cats, that were already in the household before?
Ii'm not sure that your puppy being a rat terrier is going to make a difference when it comes to the other dogs. I have a 9 y/o lab/chow mix and a 6y/o lab that were petrified of my 10 wk old cocker spaniel when we first got her. Just make sure you keep an eye on the puppy until you feel everyone else is comfortable with her. Make sure the other pets know that this is a baby and that you still love them. It took a couple weeks but now both of my older dogs looove to play with the cocker and it's brought out the puppy in them!
my son has a rat terrier. when we brought him home i also had in the house 2 adult chihuahuas and an adult cat. they all got along fine. for about 6 months the rat terrier had to go stay with my mother while we moved and got settled. she had 5 other dogs of various sizes and breeds, and 3 cats. the rat terrier now believes he is a cat because he likes to walk on the back of our furniture. just beware my sons rat terrier is very territorial over his space. he is crate trained and the crate stays in my sons room and he does not like for any of the other animals to come into the room or children who move fast and are loud.
