How do I get a toy out of my toilet?

my 1 year old put something in the toilet and now it will not flush, does ne1 have ideas of how to get it out with out calling a plumber?How do I get a toy out of my toilet?
The first thing you are going to need to do is go to your local home improvement store and buy the wax ring it is in the plumbing section

next turn off water to toilet unhook water supply

then you need to get all of the water out of the tank and bowl.

remove the bolts that hold the toilet to the floor.

remove the toilet and retrieve the toy.

put the new ring down and carefully replace the toilet tighten bolts reattach water hose turn on water.

it may come back up with a plunger, but that is not always the case. hand held (closet auger) is a good idea if you know whats in there.. but it could push it into the main stack and may not go out. the coat hangar works good (great if its something you can hook like a car) a toothbrush can be just plain hell as can the lid off a white rain hair spray. lid is small enough to make it to the bottom of the toilet trap but not turn to go out. (not that you want that going down the main) pulling a toilet isnt that big of a deal(water off, remove nuts on side and lift.. thats after you get all the water out of the toilet) buy a new wax ring (%26lt;2.00)maybe some new bolts.
You can get a hand held (closet auger) and try that. If that doesn't work, if the water is clear, you can use a mirror and a small flexible grabber.

Last, pull the toilet. tip it forward and push the item through from the bottom up, reset the toilet with a new wax ring.



Next will be the plumber.

depending how big the item/toy is, sometimes you can stick your hand inside ,since the turn is usually very small... did you try a plunger it tooo..

better put on safety latch onto the toilet,, kids that age can drown in very little water such as a toilet, fyi.....
depends on the toy- I retrieved a pair of scissors from a toilet using a coat hanger once; good luck.
