How do I get my silky toy terrier to drink by himself?

Suddenly he will not approach his water dish unless I hold him next to it, then he will drink. I have tried changing dishes and location but it doesn't help. He is not afraid of the water as he loves to play in it and have a bath. How do I get my silky toy terrier to drink by himself?
Put some ice cubes up to his mouth. If he likes them, put them in a dish. Gradually, fill the dish with water and ice cubes. It might be some kind of pattern on the bowl that he's scared of, too. but still make sure it's a plain white bowl.

Just leave the bowl of water - he'll drink when he's thirsty! How do I get my silky toy terrier to drink by himself?
Some small dogs enjoy using a water bottle, such as the kind that a rabbit would use! it's the strangest thing (to me) but hey, whatever works! lol

have you recently switched bowls? Is it too high, too narrow, atc? If it's narrow, it makes som dogs nervous to put their heads down into the bowl. Also try bottled water! Dogs can be VERY sensitive to the chlorine/chemical smell in tap water (even if it smells and tastes fine to you, their senses are so much more delicate than ours...

Good luck! I love that breed. Sooo adorable!
i have a dog that's like that with his food. he will not eat unless you praise him and clap and tell him to eat his yummy food. some times when im playing fetch with him instead of getting the ball he'll go to his bowl and eat.
