Why does my cat always meow when he holds his toy in his mouth?

My cat is 1 year old and when we got him, we bought him a soft, vibrating mouse toy. Last year we attached it to a piece of string and he loves it. He always holds the mouse in is mouth with the string dragging behind him between his legs, walks into the hallway and starts to meow. He stays there for about 15 minutes, maybe longer sometimes, and then comes back into the lounge without the mouse toy. Why does he do this?Why does my cat always meow when he holds his toy in his mouth?
