They LOVE to burrow n_n all sorts of hamsters love it. Try getting a safe container that is a bit tall and fits in the tank, and filling it with a safe, fluffy shredded paper or carefresh. They'll hide in it to sleep and eat and probably dig and play for a long time.



You can also give them these things:



small wheel, hamster see-saw, tunnels and puzzle playgrounds, ball for running in (only 15 minutes at a time with supervision, please!), odd-shaped wood chews for rolling around and messing with.



Just don't overcrowd the cage because not having exercise space is plenty unhealthy for them! You could also let them run if you ham-proof a room and stay there to watch them. I let my ham out two hours a night in the bathroom, since there's nothing he can chew or get poisoned from, and the door doesn't have enough space for escape.



If you don't have a good, recently-published book on dwarf hams as pets, please do purchase one asap. It's cheaper than a vet trip, and can help you prevent all sorts of problems like poisoning or overgrown teeth or injuries, etc. Plus most books have a section on playing with or training them!

asides from that, hamsters love the cardboard middle from toilet rolls! They chew on them, so it helps to get their gnashers down as well as entertaining them! If there's any coloured toilet paper still attached make sure you remove it - only white is safe!
