It was for dramatic emphasis. The slow motion gave you the same feeling of hope running into belief that he could indeed fly as he did when he launched himself off the ledge.
Then you got to see the sudden realization on his face when realized that his tuchas belonged to Gravity as he started losing forward momentum and started plummeting to the ground.
If they did it in real-time speeds, it would have lost the emotion and nuance.Why did Toy Story have a slow motion when Buzz tried to fly?
