Bogie was one of three in his litter, my brother has the other two. They of course are the very same age, and they are still as black as can be. Bogie was shiney black like his brothers, but his color
is now turning black underneath, with a silver cast on top. However, we couldn't love him anymore than we already do. He is the smartest, highly intelligent, loving toy poodle, weighing 4 lbs %26amp; 9 ounces. He is our baby, %26amp; we love him with all our hearts..
Just wondering why our Bogie has the silver cast coming quickly, %26amp; his brothers do not.Why is my black two yr old toy poodle turning silver?
I know it's from the same litter, but are human twins and triplets always identical? Not at all! And it's the same with dogs. Don't worry about it. At 2 years they are the equivalent of about 25 years, and people's bodies and stuff may still be changing a bit until that age, especially hair colour. Same with dogs - it's not a sign of him getting old or anything, so honestly it's nothing to worry about. Also, if you've changed his food or something it could have better or worse vitamins for the coat, and if the environments changed e.g. it's now summer, it could also be that.
Although it could be age-related, I'd suggest it could also be something in his genes. Each puppy in a litter carries their own set, taken from whichever parent is involved. It could be there's something in the background of this line that isn't all black and your puppy has taken these genes, whereas his siblings haven't. Sounds rather attractive actually. Why is my black two yr old toy poodle turning silver?
My best buddy breeds toy poodles and told me a long time ago that it is hard to predict what the final color will be. White poodles can turn black, Black poodles can turn silver, and it all depends upon what genes the puppies inherit from their parents.
Dogs from the same litter can still age differently (Just as people from the same family do). Stress and environmental factors can also affect his coat. This could also be something simple like sun damage. It is nothing major. Why is my black two yr old toy poodle turning silver?
